Concourse M, a 38,000 square-foot satellite concourse, will break ground this July, according to a recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration. Crews will also build a bus awning, designed for passengers traveling to and from the Barbara Jordan Terminal.
The project, currently in the design phase, has an estimated cost of $60-million. The concourse is expected to open in spring 2028, a spokesperson with AUS told Chron on Tuesday.
Located on the west side of the airfield, Concourse M will be a six-gate “pre-engineered facility,” designed to increase airport capacity, accommodate new airlines and provide flexibility during “irregular” operations, according to a prior AUS news release.
The six gates will serve as reliever gates during the construction on Concourse B and the remodeling of Concourse A, according to an AUS spokesperson.
Concourse M will be accessible by shuttle bus from Gate 13 in the Barbara Jordan Terminal and will feature restrooms, a pet relief room and outdoor canopies to provide shade for passengers using walk-out gates and shuttle buses.
On March 26, the Austin City Council voted to authorize a lease agreement for the facility with Air Star Concessions for food service and retail. Air Star will bring its AUS Pantry House concept to Concourse M, partnering with Austin-based Desnudo Coffee as an anchor for the concession market.
In the West Gate Expansion, Air Star will also bring a Starbucks, a grab-and-go food market and travel essentials. Two Austin-based companies, Rockman Coffee + Bake Shop and austiNuts, will serve products at two kiosks.
Several other large-scale projects are also in the pipeline, with notable upcoming dates.
The Atrium Infill project is set to kick off in Fall 2026, wrapping up in 2027, according to the AUS spokesperson. The West Gate Expansion is opening in phases, with three gates already open, and the Yellow Garage and New Midfield Taxiways will also be completed by 2027.
