A popular and fast-growing Canadian coffee chain is now eyeing another outpost in Central Texas. Tim Hortons is planning to build a nearly $1.6 million coffee shop in a booming Austin suburb.
A recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) reveals that a new Tim Hortons will be built at 9419 E. Parmer Lane in Manor, a city about 14 miles northeast of Austin. This latest development comes as Tim Hortons continues its expansion efforts across Texas, as the Austin suburb continues to welcome new businesses.
Construction on the upcoming Tim Hortons in Manor is slated to begin in early July and be finished by the end of December, according to the construction filing. The project’s scope of work includes an approximately 1,400 square foot coffee shop with an attached exterior cooler/freezer, associated parking, sidewalks and utilities.
Earlier this month, Tim Hortons was slated to begin work on its first San Antonio location on the city’s Far Northwest side, with an estimated opening date expected sometime this summer. Last year, the president of Tim Hortons U.S., Katerina Glyptis, told food-and-beverage industry publication QSR Magazine that the company is seeking to bring several locations to the Lone Star State in the near future through franchising.
The brand reportedly signed “a lot of deals” over the past few years to bring coffee and doughnuts to a dozen American states, five of which are set for Texas.
Founded in 1964 by NHL player Tim Horton and businessman Ron Joyce, Tim Hortons has grown from its beginnings in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to now boasting over 6,000 locations globally, with the vast majority still in Canada (over 3,900), per Scrape Hero data. The coffee chain, known for its affordable coffee and Timbits (bite-sized doughnut balls), is one of North America’s largest restaurant chains, operating more than 690 U.S. locations.
