EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — The El Paso City Council approved a major funding package Tuesday morning aimed at boosting public safety and advancing long-delayed community projects.
City leaders approved up to $71 million for public projects that include new police and fire headquarters, vehicles, and updated equipment. Officials said the money will come from bonds approved by voters in 2022.
“We also want to make sure that we have the funds necessary to be able to invest in the capital projects to deliver the services to our community,” said Robert Cortinas with the city manager’s office.
Cortinas said the funding is tied to voter-approved bonds. “As I mentioned, these are community progress bonds again approved by the voters back on November 8th of 2022,” he said.
Finance officials said the bonds would be issued in phases and paid back through property taxes, helping move forward community and public safety projects that have been years behind schedule.
