For almost 20 years, an acoustic guitar sat covered in dust in the prize closet at New Country 96.3 in Fort Worth. It was found during a cleanout of their prize closet and was set to be repurposed when they made a stunning discovery. The acoustic guitar was signed by none other than Taylor Swift.
It also sports the signatures of several other country music legends, including North Texas’s Eli Young Band, Jewel, and Dierks Bentley.
It’s something the station’s promotions director said is hard to believe.
“I was about to reuse the guitar for an upcoming event because the signatures were faded, and the guitar was dusty. But then after closer examination, I recognized one of the signatures … Taylor’s. I couldn’t believe it!” said Jessica MacKenzie-Williams, promotions director, New Country 96.3.
The guitar was signed by Swift and bears the year 2008. That’s the year her second album, “Fearless,” was released.
After verifying many of the signatures on the guitar, Mark “Hawkeye” Louis and Michelle Rodriguez of “Hawkeye in the Morning” affectionately dubbed it “The Lost Taylor Swift Guitar.”
They’re auctioning it off to raise money for Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth. Auction proceeds will directly support Cook Children’s and its mission to provide world-class pediatric care, regardless of a family’s ability to pay. At last check, bids for the guitar topped $7,000.
“This guitar has already had an incredible journey,” Hawkeye said. “Now it gets to make a difference for kids who need it most.”
