The Port of Corpus Christi recently closed out the first quarter of the year for shipping volume, and the organization said it was a record first quarter when all was said and done.
According to a news release from the Port of Corpus Christi, customers moved 54.5 million tons of commodities through the Corpus Christi Ship Channel in the first quarter of 2026.
That number, the organization said, is the largest volume moved in the first quarter in Port history. Previously the highest mark was 54 million tons back in 2024, according to the news release.
Additionally, the Port had a record volume in the month of March with 19.9 million tons moved – representing more than a 10% percent increase from last March, according to the news release.
The news release said the first‑quarter volume growth compared to 2025 was largely driven by the continued growth in liquefied natural gas (LNG), as well as an increase in dry bulk volumes that was partially offset by crude oil declines due to conflict in Iran – though the Port said those levels have since rebounded.
“The dramatically higher shipment levels seen since the start of the conflict in Iran are a testament to our customers’ ability to maximize their operations and quickly respond to changing market conditions,” Port of Corpus Christi CEO Kent Britton said. “It’s also a reflection of the significant investment made by the Port over the past decade…. to improve and modernize our facilities to promote the safe and efficient movement of cargoes through the waterway and is further evidence of this region’s importance in the global energy supply chain.”
