Walmart is ramping up investments in Texas with improvements at dozens of stores.
The Bentonville, Ark.-based company said Thursday it plans to remodel 72 stores in the state this year, part of ongoing efforts to modernize the experience for shoppers. More than a half-dozen sites in North Texas are on the proposal list.
The remodeling efforts will include upgrading layouts, technology and services to offer faster, more convenient shopping and delivery in as little as an hour for most customers. Improvements also are set to cover an expanded selection of healthy foods.
“We’re proud to work and serve customers across Texas, and our continued investment reflects how deeply we believe in this state and its communities,” said Elise Vasquez-Warner, senior vice president, southwest business unit, Walmart U.S., in the statement.
The company plans free pharmacy delivery for Walmart+ members along with a store-based app “experience” for navigating the retail sites navigate through stores and more.
Walmart, competing with rivals that range from Amazon to H-E-B and others, is ramping up efforts in its stores and with online services as it looks to attract new customers and shopping budgets. Nationally, Walmart is planning to remodel over 650 Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets this year. In Texas, Walmart has invested more than $2.5 billion over the past five years to upgrade sites throughout Texas.
The proposed locations for remodels this year in Texas include sites in Allen, Fort Worth, Denton, McKinney, Rockwall and Sachse, along with two in Garland.
