In the early hours of Thursday, April 16, a gas fire reportedly broke out inside the kitchen of Porky J’s BBQ & Southern Kitchen on Bandera Road in Helotes. The San Antonio Fire Department responded around 3 a.m. and was able to put out the sprinkler system-controlled fire quickly and without injuries reported. Joe Arrington, public information officer for SAFD, confirmed that the exact cause of the fire will be under investigation.

MySA reached out to Porky J’s BBQ at 8:24 a.m. on Thursday and spoke with owner Ray Jefferson, who confirmed that the fire did cause minor damage but that the Bandera Road restaurant would try to reopen later in the day, around 5 p.m. for dinner service. He commented that if the business is unable to open today, it will surely be open in the coming days.

Porky J’s BBQ and Southern Kitchen has two San Antonio locations, the one on Bandera Road and another on Tezel Road. The family-owned concept has moved around the San Antonio area with brick-and-mortar locations and a food truck offering its signature Memphis-style barbecue.
