AUSTIN, Texas — Texas’ grid manager, ERCOT, will present its energy demand forecast through 2032 tomorrow to the Texas Public Utility Commission. ERCOT projects the state’s power demand will surge as more large scale businesses like data centers move into the state at a faster rate than before. The current forecast projects over 367 gigawatts of demand by 2032 during peak hours. That is more than four times the current all-time peak of 85.5 gigawatts recorded in August 2023. ERCOT credits the increase from large load customers, including cryptocurrency mining, industrial oil and gas and data centers.
