A Houston ISD school was in secure mode Thursday morning due to an unrelated SWAT situation happening at a nearby vacant home.
Law enforcement officials said the situation began after a police chase that started as a traffic stop and ended near the school, KHOU reported. A person got out of the car and ran into a vacant house on Leader Street.
Long Academy, at 6501 Bellaire Blvd. in southwest Houston, was placed into secure mode as a precaution, and district police officers were on campus. All doors were locked, and no one was permitted to leave or enter the building. A separate power outage, unrelated to police activity, was also impacting the school, the district said in a statement.
“We assure you that we take all threats seriously as the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority,” the district said in a statement. “We will share additional information as needed.”
This is a developing story.
