At least two more Houston ISD officials will join the upper ranks of Fort Worth ISD under new state-appointed leadership.

The leadership announcement signals that elements of Houston ISD’s reforms could be implemented in the North Texas school district that serves about 70,000 students — now the second-largest school district after HISD to be taken over by the state.

Shon Joseph, previously an HISD executive director, began leading Wheatley near the beginning of the 2025-26 school year. It is unclear when Joseph will formally leave HISD to begin in Fort Worth, but his departure would become Wheatley’s third principal change under state-appointed leadership. Years prior, Wheatley’s consecutive failing ratings triggered HISD’s takeover in June 2023.

Kyndra Tyler, an HISD executive director of instruction, will also join Fort Worth as one of the four new regional chiefs.

“I am honored to work alongside outstanding leaders and talented educators in FWISD,” Tyler posted Thursday on LinkedIn.

In March, HISD’s former central division chief, Daniel Soliz, announced his departure for Fort Worth. His announcement came soon after the state announced it would place Peter Licata, from Florida, to the role of Fort Worth superintendent.
