Country music platinum superstar Chris Young, the Randy Rogers Band, and a special light show will highlight El Paso’s America 250 celebration this summer.

City leaders in partnership with Destination El Paso and Fort Bliss announced Thursday, April 16, the plans for a weeklong celebration of El Paso’s America 250, from June 27 through July 4.

Young will kick off the festivities by headlining the Pop Goes the Fort concert on June 27.

The country artist gained fame after winning the reality show, “Nashville Star” in 2006 and has since released several successful albums including “The Man I Want to Be” and “Famous Friends.”

The America 250 festivities in El Paso will culminate with a free Independence Day celebration Downtown on July 4 at San Jacinto Plaza. The celebration, from 5 to 10 p.m., will be headlined by the Randy Rogers Band.

Mayor Renard Johnson said, “this event is an opportunity for our community to come together and mark an important moment in our nation’s history.”

“As we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States we want to do it in a special way that marks who we are as a city,” he said, adding Fort Bliss is a part of the city and a great partner.

What is America 250?

El Paso is one of many cities across the United States that will be having events to mark America’s 250th anniversary. Many of the events will be during the July 4 weekend. Some cities will have events throughout the year.

The celebration highlights the places, people and moments that shaped the nation over 250 years.
