LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Strong northerly winds have subsided after gusts reached 47 mph at the Lubbock airport this morning as a cold front passed through around 7:50 a.m. Sustained winds were up to 30 mph.

A Freeze Warning is in effect for much of the Caprock from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday, with temperatures expected to drop into the mid-20s to low 30s. Areas off the Caprock will see lows in the mid-30s to low 40s. Lubbock County, however, may narrowly stay above freezing, though there’s a slight chance temperatures could drop two degrees cooler, bringing its first freeze of the season.

Breezy northerly winds will return late Wednesday morning, continuing through the afternoon with speeds up to 25 mph and gusts up to 35 mph possible, particularly off the Caprock.
