SAN ANTONIO — Starting on Sunday, three hidden golden eggs will be hidden at all San Antonio public library locations. If you find one, it can be redeemed for a free Library Fiesta Medal.

Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones announced the scavenger hunt as part of National Library Week which runs April 19–25, kicking off a citywide celebration that pairs the national observance with the local tradition of Fiesta.

The mayor presented the proclamation to Library Director Sukrit Goswami and staff during the City Council’s morning session. The week highlights the role of the San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) in community education and connection.

“Great cities have great libraries, and in San Antonio, our libraries are essential to how our community learns, connects, and thrives,” Goswami said.

Throughout the week, all locations will feature reflection murals where visitors can share book recommendations and personal anecdotes.

The local festivities align with national themed days sponsored by the American Library Association:

Monday, April 20: Right to Read Day, featuring the release of the “State of America’s Libraries Report” and the list of the top 10 most challenged books of 2025.Tuesday, April 21: National Library Workers Day, recognizing the contributions of library employees.Wednesday, April 22: National Library Outreach Day, celebrating professionals who bring services directly into the community.Thursday, April 23: Take Action for Libraries Day, a day dedicated to library advocacy.

National Library Week has been observed annually since 1958. This year’s alignment with Fiesta includes additional events listed on the library’s online calendar.
