Simsbury native Rachel Sennott is joining some major Hollywood names for an upcoming film centered around a criminal cockroach.

Sennott has a “key supporting role” in the upcoming film “Kockroach,” Deadline reported in April. The film is about a cockroach that wakes up in a human body in Times Square during the 1950s and “claws his way up through crime, business and politics,” according to Production List. It is based on a 2007 novel of the same name.

Sennott will join other notable cast members, including Zazie Beetz, Alec Baldwin, Chris Hemsworth and Taron Egerton, Deadline reported. Their roles have not been publicly identified yet and the movie has yet to recieve an official release date.

Sennott, a 2014 graduate of Simsbury High School, gained prominence through her breakout role in 2020’s “Shiva Baby,” which earned her award nominations, including a Gotham Award and a Chicago Film Critics Association Award, according to IMDb. In 2022, Sennott starred in the horror-comedy “Bodies Bodies Bodies” alongside “Saturday Night Live” alum Pete Davidson. In 2023, Sennott co-wrote, executive-produced and starred in “Bottoms,” a movie that follows two queer high school students who start a fight club revolving around sex.

Sennott was also an actor and producer for the recently released film “Bunnylovr,” centered on “a drifting Chinese American cam girl (who) struggles to navigate an increasingly toxic relationship with one of her clients while rekindling her relationship with her dying estranged father.” She plays Bella, the best friend of the main character. The best friends’ bond is tested after Rebecca receives a live bunny from a client (played by Austin Amelio) whose “influence begins to entangle her emotionally and financially.”
