EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Locomotive FC suffered its first loss of the 2026 season on Wednesday night, falling 4-1 to MLS side Houston Dynamo FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32.
The result marked the first setback of the year for the Locos, who had opened the season unbeaten across all competitions. Now, the focus turns to how El Paso responds.
Despite the loss, the Locomotive remain unbeaten in USL Championship play, with a 4-0-1 record, and will have a chance to bounce back quickly.
El Paso returns home Saturday night to face in-state rival San Antonio FC at Southwest University Park.
It also marks the first Copa Tejas meeting of the season between the two sides—the only two clubs in the league competing for the trophy.
The matchup adds another chapter to a rivalry that has consistently delivered physical, high-intensity contests. Both sides are familiar with one another, and Saturday’s meeting is expected to be no different.
San Antonio FC (3W-1L-3D) enters the match winless in its last three league matches, while El Paso comes in riding a four-match winning streak in USL Championship play.
With momentum still on their side in league action, the Locos will look to protect their unbeaten record and keep their strong run going in front of the home crowd.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Southwest University Park.
