The Royse City Bulldogs have had a strong season but they hit a road bump against the Plano West Wolves on Tuesday. The team put up a good fight but lost a narrow contest 2-1.Â
“Pay attention to being prepared, pay attention to the details of things you’re supposed to do and then there’s a time when it will swing back and everything will start going your way again,” Coach Clay Wolfe told his team after the game.Â
The pitching staff was locked in early. Starter Hayden Cavin tosse a scoreless first three innings before the game’s momentum swung in favor of Plano.Â
While Wolfe thought the defensive effort was solid on the night, he said one mistake ended up coming back to haunt the team.Â
According to Wolfe, the team had a prime pickoff opportunity in the top of the fourth with runners on first and second and two out.Â
That missed opportunity lead to a triple into center field from Wolves outfielder Nathan Buriko, which plated two runs and put the Wolves up 2-0.Â
The Bulldogs’ one run came in the bottom of the sixth inning. A pair of singles from Cason Lancaster and Peyton Peoples put runners on the corners as Lancaster advanced all the way to third.Â
Alex Nevarez drove Lancaster in on a sacrifice fly to shallow right right field to cut the lead in half at 2-1.Â
Elliot Shaw drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh representing the tying run with one out but a double play ended the game.Â
The Bulldogs pick things up at 1 p.m. on Saturday on the road against the Community Braves.Â
