CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A mistrial has been declared in the trial of Oscar Uribe Jr., who was on trial for the murder of 21-year-old Benjamin Resendez. Uribe, along with his nephew Alfredo Uribe Jr., is accused of shooting and killing Resendez, then dismembering and burning his body.

The trial for Oscar Uribe Jr. began with jury selection on Monday. As the State was wrapping up its case on Thursday with its final witnesses, complications arose involving one witness’s testimony.

Resendez was reported missing in early July 2020 after his family said they had not heard from him since July 5, when he left a Calallen apartment with Alfredo Uribe Jr., according to investigators.

Later that month, deputies with the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers executed a search warrant at a property off FM 666, where evidence was recovered. Nueces County District Attorney Mark Gonzalez told 3NEWS at the time that human remains were discovered and sent to a state crime lab for analysis.

According to court records, investigators believe Resendez was killed in the early morning hours of July 5 and that his body was dismembered and burned in an attempt to conceal the remains.

Oscar Uribe and Alfredo Uribe Jr. were arrested in late July 2020. Prosecutors have previously said Alfredo Uribe Jr. was a suspect in more than one death.
