On April 10, Texas EquuSearch reported that 23-year-old Ashanti Allen was missing from Houston.

Houston police are searching for a man they say is charged with murder in the death of a woman who was pregnant with their unborn child.

According to the Houston Police Department, the body of a 23-year-old woman who had been reported missing was found Thursday morning at 11655 Chimney Rock Rd. Kevin Faux, 24, was the father of the woman’s unborn child and has been charged with murder in connection to her death, police said.

Although police have not identified the woman by name, and said her cause of death is pending an autopsy, they said her body was discovered as part of a missing person investigation along with Texas EquuSearch. The nonprofit reported April 10 that 23-year-old Ashanti Allen was missing from Houston, having last been seen near her home in the 8700 block of Main Street. Texas EquuSearch noted that Allen was “8 months pregnant and experiencing a high-risk pregnancy.”

After Allen’s body was discovered on Thursday, her family set up an online fundraiser to assist in covering “unexpected” funeral costs.

“We are heartbroken to share that our beloved baby sister, Ashanti Allen, was tragically taken from us. She was eight months pregnant, and we were all so excited to welcome our nephew, Jaxon Allen, into the world,” the family wrote on GoFundMe. “We never got the chance to meet him. Our family is devastated beyond words.”

As of Friday morning, the family had raised $4,900 of its $5,500 goal.

Harris County court records show that Faux was convicted in February of assaulting a family member, with Allen cited as the victim. He was sentenced to 280 days in jail, according to court records, which show that he received credit for having already served 143 days in jail.

In 2022, Faux was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, court records show.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the woman’s death or Faux’s whereabouts to contact HPD’s homicide division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS.
