“When this baby hits 88 miles per hour… you’re gonna see some serious s**t.”

Those famous words by Christopher Lloyd’s Dr. Emmett Brown kick-started the time-traveling journey of Michael J. Fox’s Marty McFly in Back to the Future and began more than 40 years of fandom that lingers to this very day. Texans have not been shy with their love for the 1985 blockbuster look no further than Boerne’s Darkside Brick Oven Pizza Co., but folks up in North Texas are wondering why their slice of nostalgia never opened its doors.

909 West Magnolia Avenue, Suite 10, in Fort Worth was previously the home of Yucatan Taco Stand before it was replaced by Tres Amigos Tacos & Tequila in 2024. That concept did not last long, shutting down sometime last year with a Yelp post saying the lights were out and furniture was gone as of this January. In its place was supposed to be Marty’s, a Back to the Future-themed restaurant from the owners of McFly’s Pub, also a nod to the 1980s classic. The team went as far as putting murals of Fox and Lloyd, as well as the DeLorean time machine, on the side of the building, but then nothing.

Months have passed, and there’s no sign of Marty’s showing any life, or even a social media page. The confusion saw Redditor fuzzysalad post in the Fort Worth subreddit, asking, “Does anyone know what happened with Marty’s on Magnolia?” They added, “They painted this awesome mural and then it never opened. It looks like the old taco place is out of business. Anyone know the story?”

Some of the replies made jokes, like crewsctrl writing, “A different timeline intersected and it will now be remodeled into Biff’s,” a nod to Thomas F. Wilson’s role of Biff Tannen, the villain from the Back to the Future trilogy.

Others suggested other 80s-themed remodels the restaurant could take.

“I’d like to see either a Goonies or Blood Sport themed restaurant here next,” CrossFire_tx wrote, to which fuzzsalad responded, “Or big trouble in little China!”

“Probably realized fort worth doesn’t need 2 back to the future themed bars. Mcflys is literally all you need lol,” Greenqueen304 wrote.

Meanwhile, Redditor skittlesbecrazy replied in a way that may get to the root of the problem.

“The Mexican restaurant, Tres Amigos, was going to rebrand as Marty’s (food+live music concept) but the owner was months behind on rent,” they wrote. “The landlord eventually just locked them out.”
