MAGNOLIA, Texas (KPRC) – The mayor of Magnolia, Texas, has been charged with felony assault of a pregnant woman.
The charge comes as relief for the accuser, City Secretary Christian Gable.
Gable first reported the alleged assault by Mayor Matthew Dantzer to human resources, and then the city.
But Gable said the city closed the investigation without taking action.
However, an investigation at the state level led to Dantzer’s arrest and indictment.

The investigation included hotel surveillance video that Gable said shows the incident from last October.
“Uses his hand to grab me by the throat and pin me against this pillar,” Gable said. “To watch that back it is crystal clear. There’s footage of inside the hotel as well, and you can see his attempt to trip me from behind that I wasn’t quite aware of.”
Gable said that despite the charges, Dantzer still has access to City Hall.
Gable has filed a federal lawsuit against Dantzer and the city, alleging failure to investigate and retaliation.
Dantzer is out on bond and maintains his innocence.
Meanwhile, the Magnolia City Council is holding a special closed meeting on Monday.
The mayor pro tem has called for Dantzer’s resignation.
