AUSTIN, Texas — Austin ISD Superintendent Matias Segura met with parents in East Austin to discuss the district’s proposed consolidation plans on Tuesday.
Segura emphasized that “public education is under attack” and highlighted the need to address the district’s budget deficit to move forward.
The proposal could lead to the closure of 13 schools and changes to 98% of school boundaries.

Segura stated, “We’re talking about ensuring that every student, no matter where they are in Austin, gets what they need.”
He added that the district continues to invest in teachers and schools, but change is necessary for success.
The district has completed three virtual meetings to address community concerns, with another district-wide meeting scheduled for Nov. 8.
