For more than six decades, San Antonio’s North Star Mall has been one of the city’s favorite places to shop. And this year, one massive store in the 1.2 million square foot mall is headed for a major update. Here’s what to expect.
According to a recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration, the Dillard’s store at North Star will be undergoing $520,000 worth of improvements this year. Work is set to begin on May 15 and wrap up by mid-November — however, TDLR filings aren’t set in stone and are subject to change.
As for the scope of the renovations, the filing reveals that the project is zeroing in on remodeling a 4,000 square foot area including the cosmetics and men’s fragrance departments. A spokesperson for the mall told MySA via email that they are “not aware of any disruptions for the mall for any improvements that [Dillard’s] may be making.” Meanwhile, Dillard’s isn’t the only tenant that’s set for a facelift, as shoe store Journey’s is slated for $630,000 worth of renovations this summer.
North Star Mall opened in 1960, making it the oldest mall in San Antonio. Today, it boasts more than 200 stores, including anchors like Dillard’s, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and JCPenney, as well as American Eagle Outfitters, Garage, Kendra Scott, Kate Spade, Coach, Louis Vuitton and the Apple store. Its famous cowboy boots are the largest in the world, towering in front of the mall at a little over 35 feet tall.
