No. 13 Georgia softball fell 7-5 against No. 5 Texas at home on Saturday, April 18, in a filled Jack Turner Stadium. The Bulldogs are now 32-12 and 9-7 in SEC play. The Longhorns, who won the NCAA Women’s College World Series in 2025, are now 34-6.

The Bulldogs earned 11 hits over the seven innings, falling just behind Texas’s 12. Graduate student Keirstin Roose, senior Sarah Gordon and sophomore Bailey Lindemuth each recorded two hits.

The Bulldogs gained a lead in the third inning, with a bases-loaded single down the right field line from senior Tyler Ellison bringing in two runs.  The next at-bat, Gordon added three more to the board with a home run to earn a 5-1 lead that lasted until the fifth, when a three-run Texas home run started the Longhorn comeback. The Bulldogs did not score in any inning other than the third.

The Bulldogs neared a comeback in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second, but fell short on a play at home. Lindemuth was tagged at the plate after being sent from second on Gordon’s single to right, ending the game. Georgia attempted to overrule the call, but an ecstatic Texas secured the win.

Junior Randi Roelling started on the mound for Georgia. The lefty went 5 2/3 innings, allowing nine hits and six runs before sophomore Addisen Fisher closed the sixth, earning two hits and no runs. Freshmen Presley Harrison and Ada Little both pitched in the seventh, with Harrison earning one run and Little earning none. Roelling earned the loss, moving her record to 13-5.

“Ultimately, there were a lot of really good things,” head coach Tony Baldwin said. “We’ve just got to keep fighting to win a few of those moments that decide the game.”

Senior and All-American Reese Atwood earned three hits for the Longhorns, while freshman Hannah Wells added two hits, including a three-run home run in the fifth inning. Junior Viviana Martinez added two hits and two RBIs. Freshman Citlaly Gutierrez earned the win on the mound, going 3 2/3 innings and allowing no runs and four hits.

The conference opponents now have an all-time record of 2-2, and will face each other again on Sunday, April 19, to continue the Athens series.
