What started as a typical morning commute outside San Antonio quickly turned upside down Tuesday morning, October 28, as traffic ground to a sudden halt near Solms Quarry Road in Schertz.

At approximately 8:05 a.m. on Tuesday, authorities responded to a collision involving an Amtrak passenger train and a semi-tractor trailer at the railroad crossing on Solms Quarry Road at FM 482 in Comal County.

Preliminary investigation indicates the Amtrak train was carrying 129 passengers and nine crew members at the time of the incident, according to a Schertz Police Department news release. The semi-truck involved was a rock hauler, occupied only by the driver. No injuries were reported among passengers, crew or the truck driver and officials confirmed the train did not derail.

Schertz PD confirmed in a Facebook post that the railroad tracks had been cleared as of 10:35 a.m. and that FM 482 and Solms Quarry Road is now open. Authorities say the cause of the collision remains under investigation, with state and federal partners assisting to determine the full circumstances. Amtrak has been notified and will handle all inquiries related to the train and its passengers.

MySA reached out to Amtrak and the Schertz Police Department for comment.
