The city previously raised the prices of almost all of its parking meters to $1 an hour, save for Deep Ellum, in October 2024.
DALLAS — A year-and-a-half after the city of Dallas raised its minimum on-street parking meter rate for most of the city, that hike is coming for Deep Ellum too.
In a memo, the city stated hourly parking rates in the Deep Ellum Paid Parking Area, where parking meters can be installed, will be raised to $1 an hour, the standard rate across the rest of the city’s parking meters since October 2024.
This change will take effect on May 8, according to the memo.
But this price hike may not be the end of it. Following this change, the memo details, city staff will measure parking occupancy rates to see if more rate changes are needed to meet demand, according to the city code’s on-street parking and curb management policy.
The delay in Deep Ellum’s price hike was due to its ongoing Commerce Street reconstruction project.
Dallas attributed the 2024 rate increase to most parking rates in the city not changing in more than 10 years. This hike was approved by Dallas City Council in May 2024 to manage demand and keep up with inflation.Â
