What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
Working in the film and music industry. Got to meet and work with incredibly talented individuals from all over the world.

Where did you grow up?
Born in the Philippines, raised in Houston

Growing up, what did you want to be?
I wanted to be a musician, until I realized it’s constant traveling, late nights … not for me.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
Hiking or playing with my dog and rabbits.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
Dolores Cannon because I’ve always found her work in past life regression therapy and her understanding of the universe and spirituality wildly fascinating.

What is Houston’s best kept secret?
Bayou Wilds in Memorial Park. You would never guess you’re still in inner-loop Houston except by the exceptional phone reception.

What do you love most about the industry?
1. Helping people. 2. I’m not bound to an office chair. 3. I’ve been fortunate to have had the kindest, most interesting (and dare I say good-looking) clients in my 14 years in the business.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Explaining to clients that their tax assessed value is not the same as fair market price.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Consistency, and don’t treat clients like walking, talking paychecks. No one wants to be sold. Do right by your client, and not only will they forever be your client, but so will their neighbors, coworkers and family members.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to?
I love “Physical: 100” on Netflix. Sometimes I just have it running the background. I like watching people workout. Don’t ask me why. Also, I’m starting to get into manga.

What’s your favorite meal in Houston?
Anything Chef Andy whips up at Soto Houston, the smoked salmon rice bowl at Loro Asian Smokehouse when I want to be healthy, and crawfish at Jenevi’s Seafood Shoppe when I want to indulge and worry about my cholesterol later.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Houston?
I’d say any of the 19th century buildings and condominiums in downtown Houston. I love the exposed brick, tall ceilings and tall windows.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
I’ve never forsaken a client before, but once a tiny garden snake found its way inside a vacant home and I bolted out of there leaving my clients to fend for themselves. They ended up not buying that house.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m kind of a dork. I’m into sci-fi and fantasy movies and series. Also, despite my small stature I can lift really, REALLY heavy.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor area because the natural aesthetics are breathtaking, top tier oysters and lobster rolls, and the most dog-friendly place I’ve ever been. You can bring your pup inside any restaurant and they can eat right off the table.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Learn as much as you can.

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
Dr. Mike Varshavski
