“(A) coastal trough combined with several disturbances moving northeast over the region will produce periods of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday with heavy rainfall possible,” Jeff Lindner,  Harris County meteorologist, posted to Facebook Monday morning.

Following light rain on Monday, Lindner said widespread rainfall is likely to move in, totaling between 1 and 2 inches, with isolated high totals of up to 4 inches.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Houston-Galveston Office also anticipates thunderstorms to sweep back into Southeast Texas on Tuesday, bringing the potential for “locally heavy rainfall.”

“Most of Southeast TX (is) in a marginal risk (level 1 of 4) of excessive rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday,” forecasters with the NWS Houston-Galveston Office wrote in their outlook. “We can anticipate rainfall rates to be in the 2 (to) 3 (plus inches an hour) range again.”

As of Monday afternoon, the detailed forecast for the Houston area anticipates an 80 percent chance of precipitation Tuesday, with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms at night. On Wednesday, the chance of rain remains at 80 percent, dropping to 30 percent in the evening.

A low chance of showers and thunderstorms persists through Sunday, around 20 percent from Thursday on.

On the bright side, temperatures are expected to gradually warm throughout the week, with lows in 70s and highs in the mid 80s Thursday through the weekend.Â
