EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — As part of National Volunteer Appreciation Week, El Paso Animal Services is shining a spotlight on the dedicated individuals who help make pet rescues and adoptions possible year-round.
According to the organization, volunteers contributed more than 51,000 hours of service over the past year. Their work spans a wide range of responsibilities, including daily animal care, assisting with adoptions, and participating in community outreach efforts.
Shelter officials say this support is critical, not only for maintaining operations but also for improving outcomes for animals in their care.
The impact of volunteers extends beyond the shelter walls; by helping connect pets with adoptive families, they play a direct role in strengthening the community’s commitment to animal welfare and responsible pet ownership, officials stated.
El Paso Animal Services also tells KTSM that volunteering opportunities are open to a wide age range. Individuals 14 and older can participate in activities such as dog walking, bottle feeding, and even pet photography.
Younger participants, ages 8 to 13, can get involved through the shelter’s Kitty Reading Book Club, which encourages early engagement with animal care.
Organizers say volunteering offers more than just a chance to help animals. It also provides a sense of purpose and connection.
