Starting May 8, parking meters in Dallas’ main entertainment district will cost at least $1 per hour, up from as low as 10 cents in some parts, according to a Monday memo from Assistant City Manager Dev Rastogi.
Dallas officials said the revised meter rates were meant to standardize parking prices, encourage turnover in high-traffic areas and boost city revenue.
The increases took effect in October 2024 in areas like downtown, Uptown and Oak Cliff’s Jefferson Boulevard
In Deep Ellum, the increases were delayed more than a year because of the ongoing reconstruction of Commerce Street, which includes converting it to a two-way street and upgrading sidewalks and drainage.
According to the memo, the city will monitor parking occupancy to decide if further rate changes are needed.
