Port Aransas ferry ramp two to close for summer as $64M TxDOT upgrades continue

Drivers should expect delays as construction impacts ferry operations through peak travel season.

PORT ARANSAS, Texas — The Port Aransas Ferry will temporarily close Ramp Two starting Tuesday, April 21, as part of a major $64 million upgrade project led by the Texas Department of Transportation.

Officials say three ferry landings on the Port Aransas side will remain open during construction. Still, drivers should expect longer wait times—especially on weekends and holidays when traffic is heaviest. 

The ramp is expected to stay closed through the summer, with all work dependent on weather conditions.

The ongoing project includes upgrades to ferry landings, ramps, pile structures, bulkheads, fueling and electrical systems, pavement, and lighting. 

Leaders say the improvements are designed to ensure the ferry system can safely and efficiently serve the public for decades to come.
