One of the ferry ramps on the Port Aransas side of the ship channel will close on Tuesday, April 21, and remain closed through summer to make way for construction, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
Closing will be Ramp Two, which is the second ramp from the left as viewed from vehicles driving up to the ramps on the Port Aransas side, heading toward Harbor Island, TxDOT reported.
The closure is “to allow progress to continue on the Texas Department of Transportation’s $64 million project to upgrade the ferry system’s landings,” said a news release from TxDOT.
Three landings will remain open on the Port Aransas side, but motorists still “may experience elevated wait times caused by high traffic volumes on busy weekends and holidays,” the release said.
All work is weather permitting.
The improvement project involves upgrading existing structures and landings on the Port Aransas side, including ramps, pile clusters, fenders, counterweight structures, steel sheet pile bulkheads, fueling systems, electrical systems, pavement and illumination.
