El Paso’s own Sparta just announced they’ll be taking the stage at the inaugural Sol Summit Music and Cultura Festival on May 3 at San Jacinto Plaza in downtown El Paso before heading out on a national tour this summer.

For the uninitiated, Sparta is a post-hardcore and alternative rock band born right here in the 915, founded by Jim Ward after the dissolution of At the Drive-In. Ward is already a certified hometown hero. Last year, his decades-long friendship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is what put El Paso on the band’s radar and ultimately made us the only Texas stop on their world tour. Martin said it himself from the Sun Bowl stage: Ward was “the man who told us about El Paso and made us fall in love with it from afar.”
Now El Paso gets to return the favor. Sparta’s new album Cut a Silhouette drops May 29, featuring a first single co-written with Frank Iero of My Chemical Romance, and the Sol Summit show lands just weeks before release day. That means El Paso gets a preview before the rest of the country even catches up. After the hometown show, Sparta will support the Toadies on their spring U.S. tour before linking up with Jimmy Eat World for select dates on the Bleed American 25th anniversary run this fall.
El Paso has had Sparta’s back for over two decades. Now they’re coming home to launch the next chapter. Don’t miss it.
