EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — City Rep. Cynthia Boyar Trejo addressed community concerns about the closure of the Bowling Family YMCA in Northeast El Paso and provided a solution for pool services.

Following a City Council meeting on April 14, where residents expressed dissatisfaction with the community center closing, Boyar Trejo provided an update in a video posted to Facebook on Friday, April 17.
She announced Camp Cohen Water Park, which is owned by the City of El Paso, would be open, offering its pool services.
“Camp Cohen will be open, offering community morning swim, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for ages 14 and older, and it will be open for lap swimming, and water fitness swimming lessons will also continue,” Boyar Trejo announced in her video. “I know this isn’t a replacement, but it’s a step.”

“The closure of the Y is more than just a loss of a facility,” Boyar Trejo said in the video. “This is something that I am taking seriously.”
At same time, Veterans Indoor Pool in Northeast El Paso, remains closed due to repairs. It’s expected to reopen and serve the community in the Fall.
