The San Antonio Police Department are investigating a frightening incident that unfolded outside a Southside H-E-B last week. Officers were dispatched to a reported vehicle burglary in progress in the parking lot of the shop at 3323 Southeast Military Drive on Wednesday, April 15 around 8 p.m., according to an SAPD preliminary report.

Several “disturbance gun involved calls” were made at the location before SAPD’s arrival, per the document. The male victim told authorities that he exited the store and noticed an individual, allegedly one of the suspects, inside his Ford pickup truck. After yelling that someone was trying to steal his vehicle, he says the suspect entered a gray Dodge Charger with a second suspect and fled the scene.

The victim told police that when he re-entered the truck, he discovered a black iPhone in the driver’s seat. He grabbed the phone and stepped away from his vehicle, then noticed the two suspects had returned to the scene, according to the report. The suspect, who was initially seen in the victim’s truck, went into it again, “presumably to look for the phone,” the document states.

The victim told SAPD they began recording the two suspects, and that’s when one of them walked up with a gun in hand. That suspect allegedly demanded the black iPhone back and chased after the victim as they ran. Meanwhile, the second suspect stayed near the Dodge Charger, also holding a gun, according to police.

Eventually, both of the suspects entered the Dodge Charger, and one of them told the victim they were going to steal his truck if the iPhone was not returned, the report states.

The victim told police that one of the suspects claimed they knew where he lived and threatened him. After that, both suspects took off, according to the report. A witness also spoke with SAPD, saying they saw one suspect chasing the victim with a gun. The witness added that the second suspect was standing outside a vehicle, also armed. It’s unclear which vehicle the witness was referring to.

SAPD is investigating, and the department says there is no additional suspect information at this time. MySA reached out to H-E-B about whether there are plans to increase security measures at this location, but has not heard back.
