Court documents reveal prior violence between shooter, victim in Lubbock convenience store shooting

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Court documents reveal the shooter in a Friday night convenience store shooting that left one person dead had a prior violent encounter with the victim.

Police records indicate 41-year-old Tommy Rios shot Jonathan Trevino at a convenience store near 59th and Avenue P.

Police obtained surveillance video which showed Rios confronted Trevino as he walked out of the store. Trevino tried to ignore him and continued to walk away. Rios followed behind and eventually shot him.

Lubbock Police Department records reveal Rios stabbed Trevino in 2024.

Rios is held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $300,000 bond.
