ARLINGTON — The Rangers are investigating an incident at their West Dallas youth academy in which juvenile attendees at a team-sponsored youth camp allegedly harassed another attendee with alleged racist insults.
In an Instagram post, Kee West alleged that during a recent 10-and-under baseball camp at the academy, two “non-Black players, targeted my son, a Black player with racist remarks, calling him a monkey and mocking him with animal noises while batting.”
West said the incident was reported to coaches and front-office staff [of the camp], but no public action or camp-wide statement has been made. On Tuesday, the Rangers acknowledged they were investigating the incident.
“The Rangers were recently made aware of an incident alleging statements made by participants at our academy facility,” the club said in a statement. “The club takes this type of accusation very seriously and the alleged conduct will not be tolerated. The club is currently conducting an investigation into this incident. As this incident is still under review and as the allegations involve minors, the club will have no further comment.”
