A hostage situation in Providence Village that began late Monday night is stretching into Tuesday night, with police negotiating for nearly 24 hours with a man who claimed he was armed and holding two women hostage inside a home.
Aubrey Police said the man called 911 around 11:30 p.m. Monday and told dispatchers he had two women hostage and that if they came to the home, he would kill them.
Authorities set up in the area and spent hours trying to talk with the man by phone, urging him to surrender.
Aubrey Chief of Police Richard Brooks said a juvenile female was released at about 1:15 a.m. and that she provided information that led police to call in assistance from the Denton Police SWAT team.

Police said the released child confirmed to officers that there were weapons inside the home, which led to an even heavier law enforcement presence. Aubrey Police said they also requested help from the McKinney Police Department’s hostage negotiations team and the FBI.
As of Tuesday afternoon, negotiations were ongoing and one hostage remains inside the home.
Residents nearby said they had been watching the scene closely as the standoff unfolded. Raishuan Stadeker, a neighbor, said she could hear officers giving commands as police worked outside the home.
“It broke my heart,” Stadeker said. “I heard the commands. I heard them when they were saying they have to get the drone up so that the drone can actually go through that window that’s broken.”
Stadeker told NBC 5 she was hoping for a safe resolution with everyone unharmed.
“My hope is that the mom comes out, you know, alive, safe, and him as well, but I hope that they at least find out what’s the root cause of it and get him some help,” said Stadeker.
By 8:00 p.m. Aubrey police said SWAT Command had been transferred from the the McKinney SWAT to the FBI Hostage Rescue Team.
As of 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night, the hostage situation was ongoing. Neighbors talked about their hopes for a peaceful ending.
“As a community I think we’re kind of shocked. In our group page we’ve talked about this, and we’re praying for her safety. That’s our biggest concern,” said neighbor Aman Baniya. “I hope it happens quick now. It’s been almost 24 hours, so it’s been kind of concerning for us to see this. Especially for the woman inside.”
Police confirmed the man and the hostage have a domestic relationship, but they did not confirm whether the child who was released is related to either of them.
