City manager says interest has surged since Steel Dynamics came to the area back in 2020, with more development expected.
The City of Sinton is moving forward with discussions that could reshape how land is used across the area.
City leaders met for a rezoning meeting ahead of City Council, with hundreds of acres on the table that could be shifted to commercial and industrial use.
Sinton City Manager John Hobson says the process of rezoning is not new, but it does signal a strong possibility for continued economic growth — something already happening across San Patricio County.

Hobson points to major projects, including Steel Dynamics, as a turning point for the city’s expansion. Since the company announced its plans, Hobson says Sinton has evolved into what he calls the “steel hub” of the Coastal Bend region.
“We really didn’t start growing until about 2020 when Steel Dynamics announced that they were coming out here. When Steel Dynamics started building, we started having newer interest in developments. As we get more rooftops, we’ll get more commercial and opportunities for more jobs,” he said.
Hobson says the growth is not limited to industry. He is also seeing continued expansion in residential and commercial development — something he hopes will continue for years to come.
