Fans of a Grammy Award-winning singer expecting a full-scale concert in San Antonio last weekend left disappointed after the event turned out more like a club appearance than a headlining act.

In a TikTok, @knowellthenomad documented “leaving That Venue after Leon Thomas performed his three songs,” captioning it, “lol at least we heard Mutt.” They weren’t the only ones taken by surprise, as the video racked up more than 200,000 views and hundreds of locals poured into the comments to voice their frustration, one saying they were “mad as hell.”

If you missed it, Victorious star and R&B singer Leon Thomas was set to perform at That Venue at The Rim on April 17. However, many commenters under @knowellthenomad’s video said they felt that the event was advertised more like a concert than a club appearance, and they thought they were in for a longer experience.

According to one commenter, the event was supposed to run from 11:30 p.m. to 2:15 a.m., but the DJ kept saying “‘give it up for Leon Thomas’ every couple minutes or so.” They added that “they even had a guy come out to make it look like it was him, then he left.” All in all, the commenter said Thomas didn’t come on until 1 a.m. and sang three songs, though “he sounded great.”

“Then it was back to the DJ playing a remix of [“MUTT”] that blended into [“Cha Cha Slide”] then everyone started leaving cause we were just like ‘????'” the commenter said.

Others weren’t so shocked. One commenter said, “Whenever an artist is at any type of club/venue like that, unfortunately, they will arrive an hour before close & only perform a handful of songs. it’s just a guest appearance.” Another wrote that “y’all have to learn” the difference.

This isn’t the first time That Venue has caught heat. Back in October 2025, an influencer slammed Pumpkin Fest, and the venue’s Bad Bunny pop-up ahead of the Super Bowl was criticized when ownership initially refused to allow visitors to write anti-ICE messages on a graffiti wall. Other visitors who swung by before the pop-up opened said they felt their preview was a “waste of time” because the build-out wasn’t fully complete at the time.

MySA reached out to That Venue at The Rim for comment, but did not hear back at the time of publication.
