LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Two people are suing former Texas Tech defensive line coach Zarnell Fitch and a bar for an assault that happened in January.
Armani and Arie Williams filed a lawsuit against Fitch and Logie’s on Overton last week after Fitch allegedly attacked them inside of the bar on Jan. 29.
According to documents filed to a Lubbock County court, Logie’s staff members were told about Fitch being “under the influence of steroids, drugs and alcohol.” The staff was also told Fitch intended to “start a fight that night” but did nothing to avoid the alleged assault, according to documents.
Around 1 a.m., Fitch allegedly stood behind a pole inside of the bar before he struck Armani Williams, who was “unsuspecting and unable to defend himself.” Documents said Fitch then attacked Arie Williams.
According to documents, Logie’s “forcibly removed” Armani and Arie Williams from the bar and hid Fitch in the back office.
Armani and Arie Williams are suing Fitch for assault and battery and suing Logie’s for negligence. Both are seeking between $200,000 and $1 million in damages.
Fitch’s contract with Texas Tech expired on Jan. 31 and he was not offered an extension despite being named the Defensive Line Coach of the Year by FootballScoop. He was an original member of coach Joey McGuire’s staff the past four years.
