EL PASO, Texas (KFOX 14, CBS4) — Jose Miranda had two hits, including a home run, to lead the El Paso Chihuahuas to a 13-6 victory over the Reno Aces at Southwest University park on Tuesday.
El Paso moves to 9-13. Reno falls to 11-11.
In the second inning, Miranda gave the Chihuahuas the lead with the two-run homer. In the third, El Paso native Ivan Melendez would tie the game for the Aces with a two-run RBI single. The very next at-bat, Reno would take the 3-2 lead off a throwing error from Rodolfo Duran. The game would be tied 6-6 going into the eighth inning. In the eighth, Mason McCoy would kick off a seven run inning with an RBI double. That huge inning would carry El Paso to the 13-6 victory.
For El Paso, starter Jackson Wolf pitched 2.2 innings, giving up two earned runs with two strikeouts.
Eli Villalobos was awarded the win after pitching 1.1 scoreless innings.
Miranda was 2 for 4 with the home run and 2 RBIs.
Nick Solak was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs.
For Reno, starter Kohl Drake pitched 3.2 innings, giving up four earned runs with three strikeouts.
Isaiah Campbell took the loss for giving up seven earned runs in the eighth inning.
Melendez, who graduated from Coronado High School, was 1 for 4 with the 2 RBIs.
These two squads will face off on Wednesday at 12:05 for the second game of the six game series.
