City officials said the conditional offer to Dr. Antonio Caldwell, who had been expected to begin May 18, was pulled after inconsistencies were identified in his qualifications during pre-employment checks. He is no longer being offered the position.
The city had previously announced Caldwell as the new director, citing more than 20 years of leadership experience in animal welfare, along with a background in budgeting, procurement, and organizational management.
Officials did not provide additional details about the discrepancies.
The city says it will continue its search for a new director with the help of an executive recruiter, considering candidates locally and nationwide.
