City of Aransas Pass declares 7-day emergency to address water crisis

Aransas Pass mayor says the emergency declaration will speed up efforts to secure a new water source as shortages continue across the region.

ARANSAS PASS, Texas — City of Aransas Pass Mayor Jason Knight signed a 7-day emergency declaration on Wednesday in response to an ongoing water crisis affecting the city and the surrounding region.

Mayor Knight says the order is meant to speed up efforts to find a new water source as supply concerns continue to grow across the area.

The mayor adds the city is actively working on solutions and exploring multiple options to secure additional water as quickly as possible. Knights says the emergency declaration will help move projects and decisions forward faster during the crisis.

The mayor also referenced state leaders, including State Senator Adam Hinojosa and Governor Greg Abbott, as part of ongoing discussions tied to support and response efforts.

A couple of hours after Aransas Pass issued its order, the City of Ingleside also signed a similar emergency declaration, signaling that multiple nearby communities are now taking urgent action in response to the water situation.

City leaders say they continue to work daily on long-term and short-term solutions as the region faces ongoing water challenges.
