A 36-year-old man is accused of fatally stabbing his mother at an extended-stay hotel on the West Side.
Joe Michael Capistran Jr. was charged with murder in the killing of his mother, 62-year-old Nora Capistran. A judge set his bond at $250,000.
Witnesses saw the stabbing and called 911 after 9 p.m. Saturday in the 7400 block of Culebra Road near Loop 410, according to an arrest affidavit.
When San Antonio police arrived, they found Capistran Jr. and his mother in the parking lot with multiple stab wounds, the affidavit states.
Investigators said that Nora Capistran had defensive wounds on her wrist, and a large kitchen knife covered in blood was found next to her son.Â
Nora Captistran was pronounced dead at the scene with stab wounds to her head, wrist and back, the affidavit states.
Before the stabbing, witnesses told police they heard Capistran Jr. yell, “you stupid” with foul language, followed by a commotion.
Witnesses then told police they saw Capistran Jr. come out of a room with his mother and stab her. He also got on top of her as she was on the ground motionless, the affidavit said. Afterward, he stabbed himself in the neck in an apparent attempt to kill himself.
Capistran Jr. was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
