While fall is usually a rainy season for Dallas-Fort Worth, the region has barely seen any precipitation this year.

That could be changing this weekend.

Rain chances start for the metro area on Friday night, with the highest chance of showers Saturday evening. It’s welcome news for a region that hasn’t had any measurable precipitation in almost 20 days, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.

The rain will move through Texas as part of a cold front, which is forecast to drop temperatures Sunday. The high at DFW International Airport is currently expected to fall to 83 degrees, which would make it the coldest day so far in October. That crisp day would still be six degrees above the seasonal normal for mid-October.

Before then, it’s expected to be more of the same in North Texas. High temperatures should continue to hover near 90 degrees, with lows in the mid-60s. Wind should be mild until the weekend.
