HOUSTON, Texas (KWTX/Newsource) – A Houston police officer could be out of a job after a video of an alleged racist rant was posted to social media.
Authorities believe Officer Ashley Gonzalez is heard in the video using a racial slur and saying she “hated Black people” and repeatedly using the N-word.
Houston Police officials say Gonzalez has been relieved of duty. They say she turned in her badge and gun and is not allowed to perform any police duties while the department investigates.
KHOU REPORT ON ASHLEY GONZALEZ:
Police say when the investigation is complete, Gonzalez will either be reinstated or fired—and if she is fired, she will not be eligible to be rehired.
In a statement shared with KHOU, the Houston Police Officers’ Union said it is “extremely disturbed” by the video and said it does not “condone or tolerate racist behavior from any of our officers.”
The union added that Houston police “prides itself as being the most diverse police department in the nation,” and said it believes the department is working to confirm the video’s authenticity and will take appropriate measures “to ensure public confidence and trust between our Department and our community.”
