SAN ANTONIO – The trial of three former San Antonio police officers charged in the 2023 shooting death of Melissa Perez continues today.

Defense attorneys resumed questioning following Monday’s decision by the judge to bar the state from calling expert witnesses.

Detective Ronald Soto, the lead investigator in the case, took the stand, and additional body camera footage from the incident was reviewed.

Defense attorneys focused on questioning Soto about the officers’ actions and the decision to execute the warrant, asking why there was a rush to enter the apartment. Soto testified that he had probable cause.

The judge also reminded prosecutors not to reference or allude to a related federal case during the trial.
