The childhood home of Beyoncé is under contract after recently hitting the market for $1.275 million.

Tucked in Houston’s historic Riverside Terrace neighborhood, the 4,010-square-foot home reflects Beyoncé’s early years in the city and the area’s legacy as a longtime enclave for Black professionals and business leaders.

The celebrity connection, coupled with the home’s location on a desirable street, drove significant interest after it was listed about two weeks ago, said Yvonne Bonner-Holley, Realtor with Keller Williams Realty who is marketing the home at 3346 Parkwood Drive.

After receiving multiple offers, a local buyer who made an “excellent” offer is now under contract, Bonner-Holley said.

Fans have been calling from across the country to inquire about the property, Bonner-Holley said, prompting her to vet prospective buyers to ensure they’re serious.

Bonner-Holley said she only held one open house that drew a large crowd. Toward the end of the event, a tour bus arrived with a line of fans hoping to get a glimpse inside, though they were turned away, she said.

Tour buses and fans often pass by the property. The owner even placed a life-size cutout of Beyoncé at the front of the home for fans to snap photos, although the owners ask fans to remember that the property is not a museum.

The Knowles family previously lived in a home on Rosedale Street, but bought the Parkwood Drive residence in 1987, according to Harris County deed records.

In her 2025 memoir Matriarch, Tina Knowles described it as the “perfect … white-brick dream house” with space for her niece and her niece’s daughter to live.

“There was a yard to play in, and it reminded me of my home in Galveston — a place for all the kids to hang out. ‘You can have parties with all your friends,’ I’d told the girls,” Tina Knowles wrote.

The Knowles family owned the residence until 1994, deed records show. That means Beyoncé lived in the home during much of her formative years, from age 6 to 13, while her younger sister, Solange, was there as an infant until about the age of 8.

A neighborhood rich with history

Beyond the celebrity ties, though, the home itself is set on a tree-lined street considered desirable with its large lots and proximity to Parkwood Park, Bonner-Holley said. The leafy neighborhood park is surrounded by well-maintained, older homes.

Developed in the 1920s and 1930s, Riverside Terrace is one of Houston’s most culturally significant neighborhoods, known for its collection of stately prewar homes and for its role in the city’s segregation-era housing patterns.

BACKGROUND: A hidden chapter in Riverside Terrace’s history

Black families began moving into Riverside Terrace in the 1950s as an alternative to River Oaks, where racially restrictive practices had long excluded Black residents. Although Black families still faced ongoing discrimination in Riverside Terrace early on, by the 1960s, the neighborhood had transitioned into a cultural hub for Black professional life.

Many of the same architects behind River Oaks also designed homes in Riverside Terrace, even mirroring the same floorplans, Bonner-Holley said. Several of the neighborhood’s original prewar homes still stand today.

A renovated piece of history

Built in 1935, Beyoncé’s childhood home offers an example of how many Riverside Terrace homeowners balance historic preservation with modern renovations.

Numerous upgrades were made between 2018 through 2026, including a complete renovation of the kitchen, which now features a large marble kitchen island and high-end Wolf appliances. Upstairs, the primary suite was updated with an extensive bathroom remodel featuring more modern fixtures and quartz countertops.

At some point over the years, the primary suite was enlarged and an adjacent room was converted into an oversized walk-in closet featuring white built-in shelves and a crystal-looking chandelier.

In the back, previous owners also added a pool alongside a summer kitchen and a 600-square-foot garage apartment. A three-car garage opens onto an alley behind the residence.

Since the Knowles moved out in the early 1990s, the home has traded hands multiple times. The current owners are moving to be closer to their child’s school elsewhere in Houston, Bonner-Holley said.

“I know there’s a lot of buzz about this being Beyoncé’s house, but the reality is a family lived here,” said Bonner-Holley. “And that’s what they wish for the next buyer, that it’s just a family.”
