Deceased man identified as rape suspect in multiple Texas cold cases

  • October 29, 2025

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Following an investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Emory Earl McVay, who died in 2010, has been identified as the suspect in multiple cold case rapes from 1997 to 2005.

DPS said that after three decades of investigation into three separate sexual assault cases, McVay’s DNA matched all the DNA samples collected from the three elderly women assaulted in the cases.

Before identifying McVay, DPS and Texas Rangers were able to locate that the suspect in these cases would be in Bastrop County. After positively identifying McVay as the suspect in 2025, DPS later discovered that he had passed away over a decade ago, and no arrests were made in any of the cold cases.

DPS did not share the cause of death for McVay but shared that he had a lengthy criminal history in Central Texas, which included multiple convictions for burglary.
