Travis Mross has spent years working his way up through the ranks at Zachry Construction Corp. — from intern to the management level and now president of the company.
Mross got his start with the company in 2000 as an intern. For the last six years, he’s served as executive vice president, helping shape the company’s strategic direction and strengthen its operations, the company said. This week, it announced that he has taken the presidential reins from David Zachry, who will now focus solely on his duties as CEO for Zachry Construction.
“Travis has been instrumental in setting our course and building the strong trajectory we are on today,” Zachry said. “He understands our business deeply and has helped elevate the discipline, accountability, and execution that positions us for continued success. I’m confident Travis is the right leader to guide Zachry Construction into its next chapter.
The century-old family business is known for its work as a heavy civil, roadway and infrastructure construction company, completing more than 6,000 large-scale projects in both the public and private sectors.
The data center industry is another sector that the company is targeting, building on its experience with sitework and underground utility infrastructure. The company moves dirt and puts in drainage infrastructure, laying the foundation for dry and wet utilities.
“As demand for critical infrastructure continues to grow, our job is to bring consistency, discipline, and a high standard of execution to every project,” Mross said. “That focus will continue to guide how we serve clients and grow the business.”
As president, Mross will be responsible for operations, client service and delivery across all its sectors — water, transportation, underground utility and civil sitework. His top priorities will include “a continued focus on strategic growth and operational excellence” and strengthening its corporate culture while maintaining a “gritty mindset,” the company said in a news release.
Zachry Construction’s longstanding roots in San Antonio date back to the founding of H.B. Zachry Co. in 1924 by Henry Bartell “Pat” Zachry. The business was passed onto son Bartell Zachry, who grew the company into a world-renowned presence in the construction industry.
In 2008, the Zachry Co. was restructured into two separate entities — Zachry Corp. and Zachry Group — each based in San Antonio and led by one of Bartell Zachry’s sons.
David Zachry assumed ownership of Zachry Corp., which encompasses multiple companies, including Zachry Construction. His brother, John Zachry, took control of Zachry Group, which handles industrial projects in the power and petrochemical sectors, industrial engineering and maintenance.
